What are wmv format videos?...

"wmv" stands for Windows Media Video. Your computer will automatically use the widely accepted Windows Media Player to play them. They are also good for using to make your own DVD copies for your private use. The problem is that they must download to your computer in full before they begin to play and this can take up to 10 minutes! The new Fast Download versions of our videos found on the Shag Lesson page will start immediately.

You may choose which format to watch. Both have the same quality and content and of course, both are totally FREE!

Why are there .wmv and InstantStartVideo versions of each video? ....

The InstantStartVideo versions are our preferred way for you to watch the RandyandSue videos. They use the latest Flash video technology simi liar to videos on popular web sites like YouTube but with much higher quality. You will be able to see the video almost immediately instead of waiting for a full download which can take several minutes.

Use the wmv versions if you do not want to install the free adobe Flash Player or if you do not have Java enabled on your browser.

Also use these to versions to save your own copies for off-line viewing or for making your own private-use DVD's

The wmv videos take a long time to start playing...
Answer:

First Try out the InstantStartVideos found on our Shag Lesson page. The new InstantStartVideos have exactly the same content and quality as the original wmv versions, BUT they begin playing immediately! The InstantStartVideos require that you have the Adobe Flash Player installed and Java script enabled (98% of new computers have this set up already). Easy to follow instructions are posted on the Shag Lesson page.

If you prefer to use the wmv versions then you must wait until the video file is down loaded from the RandyandSue server to your computer before it will start to play:

When you click a video on RandyandSue.com what really happens is your computer downloads the entire video into a temporary folder location on your disk and then the Windows Media Player begins. If you have a fast internet connection this is not much of a problem because we intentionally keep each video part as short as practical so the download time before the playing starts will be just a few minutes. However, if you have a dial up connection the download time can be a LOT longer. There is no way around this download time BUT you can save the video into a permanent folder on your own computer's drive and keep it as your own copy for viewing off line. This way you will only have to wait on the down loads once! For directions on saving copies of our videos

My video needs more sound volume.
Answer:

If you are using Windows Media Player to play the RandyandSue videos, it is likely that you may want increased volume over what you can get with the player's sound control. Windows seems to have a nasty habit of adjusting the master volume too low..this is easy to fix using the Windows audio settings:

You have several options for controlling volume in Windows Media Player, including adjusting the volume level, muting, and reducing volume differences either within a video or between videos. Remember that other software and hardware controls can affect the volume and audio effects settings in the Player. If you encounter problems, try adjusting your Windows audio settings, the physical controls on your speakers, sub woofer, or amplifier, or the settings in any other software used to configure the sound card in your computer.

Here is how to adjust the speaker volume in Windows:

If your sound card volume can be changed using software, a speaker icon appears in the notification area (lower right hand corner of your screen). You can change the volume by double-clicking the icon and adjusting the mp3 slider.

Note: To display the volume control icon in the notification area
Open Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel.
On the Volume tab, under Device volume, select the "Place volume icon in the task bar notification area" check box.
(To open Sounds and Audio Devices, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Sounds and Audio Devices.)

How can I save my own copy of the videos to my computers disk drive?

Answer:

When you click on the wmv format version of our videos a window will open asking you if you wish to:
                     "Open With..." or "Save To..."

EITHER

  • Select "Save To.." and a second window will open asking you where to save it on your computer. You may save it to any folder that you want or on your computer's desktop. The entire video will be automatically loaded and saved where you have selected. Now you have your own private -use copy of the RandyandSue video for off-line viewing!.

Using this method the video is only downloaded and stored and will not automatically begin playing. Navigate to the folder or desktop location where you saved the video in order to play it. You may play this video using the Windows Media Player or many third party players such as the RealPlayer, etc.

    OR
  • If instead you select "Open With.. " from that initial window, the video will be automatically download to your computer and stored in a temporary folder. The video will begin playing a soon as the download is complete ...usually several minutes later.

Since the RandyandSue video is only saved in a temporary folder you need to copy it into a permanent folder on your disk drive for future off-line viewing...While the video is playing using the Windows Media Player click FILE(at the top of the player's window) then pick "Save as"... A window will open up asking you where to save the video. Select any folder in your computer (or simply click the Desktop) and then click the"Save" button. The video will be stored in the folder that you selected or on your Desktop if that's what you picked.

You now have your own copy and can keep it to enjoy!

We do not charge a fee for our on-line videos all we ask is that you remember where you got them and spread the word about our shag dance web site.. If you visit our area and choose to take a private shag lesson with us..we promise you will not be disappointed!

PLEASE DO NOT DISTRIBUTE or give away our videos! Instead use our videos for your personal use and refer your friends to www.RandyandSue.com

Can I watch your videos on my TV at home?

Answer: In order to see our videos on you TV you will need to make your own DVD version. You will need a video burning program (Windows does not have one built in) We cannot recommend a DVD burning program because there are many available and some will make DVD's that work with your TV whereas another will not...so you must try them out until you find one that works with your existing equipment. If you do go this route, then our videos are ready to burn with adequate screen size and audio and they make fine DVD's! Warning this process is tedious and it takes some time..so good luck!

How can I get DVD versions of the RandyandSue videos?

Answer: We do not offer DVD versions. RandyandSue Shag Review Videos are available at www.RandyandSue.com, They are free...but these videos are for playing on your computer. We have looked into producing DVD versions and it would cost quite a bit..so any DVD versions would not be free. We may decide to offer our videos sometime later if we think we could sell enough to payback the up front investment..but for now, you must save the free versions on your computer's disk and make your own DVD's....(see the information above)
